Faculty of Physiotherapy
Welcome to the Faculty of Physiotherapy of the University of Vigo. Our main mission is to train professionals highly valued for their performance and skills. We have specialized and updated teaching staff, and we offer quality practical training through clinical stays in various health institutions.
In addition, we support the comprehensive development of our students through permanent tutoring, extracurricular practices and collaborations with other universities. We are also advancing research, with a growing number of PhD faculty participating in research projects and doctoral theses.
We currently have the Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy and the Master’s Degree in Therapeutic Exercise in Physiotherapy.
30th anniversary of the faculty
Last Thursday, 14 May, we enjoyed a very special day celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Physiotherapy. A journey that began in the 1995/1996 academic year at the former hospice in Pontevedra and which today establishes us as a benchmark in education, people and research.
Three decades of hard work, learning and commitment to society were commemorated during an emotional institutional ceremony presided over by the Rector, Manuel Reigosa, and our Dean, Mercedes Soto, alongside authorities, former directors and former deans who have led the centre throughout its history.
At the ceremony, we also paid tribute to Manuel Gutiérrez Nieto, former director and former dean of the centre, after whom Classroom 4 is now named.
Furthermore, as a token of gratitude for their dedication and leadership, a lovely gesture was made towards all the former deans, who were presented with a print of the illustration commemorating these 30 years.
We look back on our journey, from the early days of the diploma course with its corrugated asbestos roof to the current bachelor’s degree, the Master’s in Therapeutic Exercise and the new PhD programme in Health Research.
Now it is time to look to the future, with a focus on continuing to innovate and respond to social challenges such as an ageing population, mental health and digital transformation.
We will continue to move forward with rigour, empathy, quality and care.
Here’s to many more years!
